The Heights 3rd Annual Futbol Festival happened Saturday, November 11th, at Spark Park on 11th Street.  This event is sponsored by the Vineyard Church of Houston as a large outreach to the community in order to share Christ’s love and provide a fun day of events.

The morning started with perfect weather allowing six teams of adult futbolistos (soccer players) to compete in the tournament and challenge each other for the title of Heights Futbol Festival Champions 2012.  At noon we crowned the purple team as winners and raffled off prizes as well as listened to a professional athlete Heidi Horton share her testimony of what it takes to be a professional both in sport and for the Kingdom of God.  Then at one o’clock the children took the field and challenged each other according to age group for a chance at being named the winner.

The goals and ball provided by Sports Quest made it possible for us to run multile fields at once and the kids who were able to answer quiz questions appropriately took home a full size soccer ball as a prize for their attention to detail during Heidi’s talk.  In addition to soccer, the church provided “training camp” for those too young to play in the tournament as well as bounce houses and face painting to entertain.  The Hogg Middle School Parent Teachers Organization provided food and snacks for purchase and local businesses donated raffle prizes we were able to give away at each hour.

Overall, it was a successful day of fun in the sun with exciting futbol for participants and fans alike.  Thanks again to Sports Quest and all the others who helped support this day of community outreach for the Houston Vineyard Church.
